These days, many employers are ready to bring a therapist on staff. If this is the case for you, remember that knowing what to look for in a job candidate is the first step to locating the ideal employee. To ensure that you find the right individual for the job, make sure that you seek out the following six qualities in the candidate:

1. Internal Motivation.

Internal motivation is one of the primary factors you should look for in a therapist. The job can be difficult due to the fact that it oftentimes incorporates physical labor and grappling with the negative emotions that the client has as a result of having injured a body part. Individuals who are internally motivated will continue to accomplish goals and get things done in the face of these challenges.

2. Humility.

As noted in Forbes magazine, business leader Ryan Harris states that one of the most important characteristics he looks for in a job candidate is humility. This trait is important because therapists do not operate independently but rather work with clients as well as other members of their staff. As such, you want them to have a “No “I” in team” mentality that incorporates learning how to operate in accord with others while also being willing to admit their own mistakes.

3. Respect For Others.

Therapists who want to work for your company need to have respect for others. Individuals who acknowledge the innate value of other people are less likely to say and do things that cause them to take offense and engender office hostility or law suits.

4. Perseverance.

Perseverance is another attribute you want to look for in a prospective therapist. This trait is important because there may be very challenging days in which the therapist is ready to throw in the towel due to excessive stress and pressure. A person who has an attitude of perseverance will use their mind to figure out how to resolve conflicts and fix problems rather than quitting.

5. Emotional Intelligence.

If you really want to hire the best individual for your therapist position, make sure you pick someone who has emotional intelligence. This trait is important because the therapist’s clients will oftentimes be in a physically and mentally frail place due to their bodily injuries. An individual with emotional intelligence will be able to discern the client’s feelings and mood in order to respond to the needs of the moment.

6. Physical Fitness.

As noted in the U.S. Bureau of Statistics, therapists spend a lot of time working on their feet. As such, it’s important that you select a job candidate who is physically fit.
