4 Facts to Understand About Antenna Alignments

Connecting to the Internet to watch television or do work on your computer can be very stressful when you have interference with your reception. This is a frequent problem if you use a satellite provider and rely on an antenna for these services. Contacting your provider can be a maddening situation as a customer service representative may prove to be very little or even no help in fixing your problem.

In such situations, the best thing to do is rely on your own troubleshooting skills. Knowing the facts about antenna alignment is crucial for getting the best results with your TV and Internet.

When All Else Fails, Look Toward the L-Shaped Position

In general, the best way to fix your connection problems is to ensure that your antenna alignment is in the shape of the capital L. One antenna should point toward the sky, while the other should be facing at a 90 degree angle to that one. This ensures that you will get the strongest reception and Internet signal.

Find the Signal Tower and Face Your Antenna Toward It

If you are able to see the signal tower’s location, you can easily increase the signal strength of your antenna by aligning it toward the tower. However, if you cannot see the tower, check other antennas in your area to see which direction they are pointing toward. Keep in mind, however, that this will only be effective if there are no overly large obstructions that could interfere with your signal.

Ensure Your Antenna is Optimized for Your Needs

As technology evolves on practically a daily basis, the number of antenna options available also changes. That means there may be different antennas that may be better for your connection needs than the one you currently own. There are those that are multi-directional and will deliver a better signal. Similarly, amplified antennas are great for when sources are farther away but may not work when the tower is close by.

Placing Your Antenna as High as Possible is Best

One thing is for sure when it comes to antenna alignment – most people place their antennas as far up on their roof as possible. This is actually the best option when it comes to getting the best possible signal for your TV and Internet.

However, in some cases, it might not always be possible to place your antenna outdoors. In that scenario, you can aim for the highest spot in your home as you can manage. Aligning your antenna as close to the nearest window is also wise. Be sure to choose one or two alternate spots, just in case the first doesn’t work out.

These are the four facts that anyone who relies on satellite for their TV and Internet service should know. Once you have all of this information at your disposal, you should never run into a problem with your connection again.
